INITIATION

Updated: Dec 5, 2018

AMANDA COLARES SILVA

"Excited for this birth of our new working lives but scared of the deep waters, maybe. It is something significantly spiritual and beautiful which I usually like to include in my work.

Raw existence, the supernatural, plants, animals, people contrasted by the metaphysical; these themes usually occur in my work and they really fit with the them for this year."

CHEN GAN

"For The White Show, designing my garment involved sewing, cutting and pattern skills, and I coloured my trimming in white and scratched out some colour to form some kind of vintage feel"

TARA GALWAY-COOPER

"As an adult living in a city I feel generally exposed to multiple stimulus in my surrounding environment and interactions with others. Conversely, I am also fascinated by surrealism and contrast, when things are taken out of context or two opposing things are paired together."

PAULO GUARINO

CONCEPT: Traditional borderlines

"My inspiration comes from the Elizabethan court. My aesthetic is mainly influenced by my life but also by the things i like to look at. Although I am very excited, there is already a lot of pressure."

JAE MIN

CONCEPT: Lovers

"My inspiration for this design as well as my general designs is the relationship between humans and animals. From watching ‘Tears in the Amazon,' there was idea that there can be real love between humans and animal. Tsunori Chisato is one of the designers who has inspired my design aesthetic."

SHAUN JORDAN

CONCEPT: Lovers

"My overall design aesthetic would be described as an Edwardian throwback with over-exaggerated femininity and upholstery. It is very eclectic and nostalgic. My theme is about an analysis on the biochemical romance between two sisters. One sister is a kleptomaniac [with a weakness for] Victorian lamps, and as they run away from home to undergo their incestual relationship, the sisters love for lamps exceeds that of her love for her sister. Thus, breaking the love for each other."

LUCAS NETTLETON-TATE

CONCEPT: Lovers

"My starting point was lovers, and I was looking at the idea of being interconnected and tangled in a love web. Based of the nursery rhyme - “Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet eating curds and whey, along came a spider and sat down beside her, and frightened miss muffet away”. But in my version I am Miss Muffet and my ex lover is the spider and I’m caught up in a big web of lies and deceit."

CHRISTIE LAU

CONECPT: Lovers

"My whole thing is based around love gone sour."
